Yule 2024
21 Dec 2024 • Dani 1° in service
The longest night arrives. The light is at its smallest point, but we are not afraid. Because even the dimmest light will eventually conquer the darkness and the sun will return again.
Yule challenges us to face the darkness outside of us and not be afraid, for the light will return again.
Yule challenges us to face the darkness within ourselves and be the light to banish the shadows we all carry that dim our brightest selves from shining.
For this year's Yule ceremony, SCW members will have the opportunity to bring your light, no matter how dim or bright, and face both aspects of darkness.
In a ritual designed to utilize Zoom space to create new boundaries, this ritual will bring us all together in the light. While some stay within its warmth and sing songs to help us find home again, those feeling brave enough will be able to step into the darkness both outside and inside in a story we will weave together that only exists once in creation.
More details will follow before the ritual begins, but for now we ask that you prepare the following to bring with you to Yule:
- A new candle that has never been used before. Gold, green, red or white are preferred colors but any will do as long as it has never burned before.
- Something to blindfold your eyes, whether that be your Schmatta or another fabric. If being blindfolded will be a problem for you, bring gloves instead.
- Contemplate one thing you would like to see gone from the world. It can be something external or internal, something about the world around you or something about yourself. Write it on a scrap of paper and have that paper with you. What you write may be something you share out loud, but only by your choice, so be as personal about the internal or external as you wish.
- Finally, think of your favorite song when you are afraid.
Register here, and you will receive schedule updates and the Zoom room information by email.
Services may be recorded. Participants are welcome to have their cameras on or off at any time, and standard Zoom etiquette applies.
