Red Dragon is a traditional spellcasting focused on healing for diseases affecting or carried in blood. It originated at the height of the HIV pandemic with the invocation of a Red Dragon of healing by Reclaiming Witches and Radical Faeries. Red Dragon is a community ritual, celebration, and fundraiser for hope, healing, care, and cures for HIV and other blood-linked diseases.

For 26 years, our practice of Red Dragon has been to wear red outfits, eat red foods, make ceremonial toasts with red drinks, and cast circle to drum and to dance with the Red Dragon. Today, the Red Dragon spellworking consists of online and in-person gatherings with a common magical thread and intent. From coast to coast we raise this toast proclaiming “All hail the Red Dragon! All hail the life-giving blood!”

Raising Energy–and Also Funds

Every year, SCW chooses to support one community-based nonprofit organization that works to provide hope, healing, care, or cures. This year, Red Dragon proceeds support Grace House in Jackson, Mississippi. The mission of Grace House is to serve impoverished Mississippians living with, affected by, or at higher risk of HIV/AIDS by providing and maintaining housing where clients may live with dignity, safety, and care; delivering all the support necessary to improve their health and financial situation and reducing stigma through education.

Red Dragon 2024 will also include local community-level events celebrated in multiple SCW Bioregions. Registration for the national event includes attendance at the bioregional event in your area.

Suggested starting donation: $25

100% of this year's donations go to support Grace House in Jackson, MS, a non-profit serving HIV+ and other at-risk people with housing and other direct services.

Our suggested starting donation is $25, and we invite you to increase your donation by the amount you might have set aside for silent auction purchases. For example, if you planned to spend $100 at a silent auction then your total donation for this year would be $125. (While we are not hosting a silent auction this year, please email us if you would like to contribute an auction item for next year.) This means that all donations of any amount will be tax deductible this year!

No one will be turned away for lack of funds, and we appreciate all donations of any amount.
